6/12/2023 0 Comments The necklace de maupassant![]() ![]() The second kind of oppression, more concrete, comes in the second part of the story, where Matilda and her husband both have to give up what comforts they had to begin with in order to pay off the debt that they owe for the necklace. The first kind of oppression, in the first section of the short story, comes from within Matilda herself because of her unrealistic dreams and expectations for her life. ![]() ![]() The oppression that de Maupassant writes about in this story is two-fold. Years later, the woman meets her old friend by chance in the park and brags of how much she and her husband went through to replace the necklace, only to be told that the necklace was made only costume jewelry and “were not worth five hundred francs”. She and her husband go into great debt to buy a replacement, living a life of great poverty for a decade to pay off the debt they incurred to do this. Sometime during the night of the ball, the necklace is lost. In it, a middle-class woman, Matilda Loisel, who dreams of a luxurious life, is able to have one, glorious night at a ball, wearing a borrowed necklace of diamonds from her childhood friend. Oppression plays a large role in the brilliant short story by Guy de Maupassant entitled “The Necklace”. I actually feel like all the magical elements blending with real life is very representative of Filipino culture, so it came through pretty naturally for me. How do you see these diverse interests coalescing? It feels like such a delicate and impressive balancing act. Megan Kakimoto: I’m so taken by the creative experimentation of your work, and how you incorporate magic, myth, and storytelling into more familiar landscapes while never sacrificing what feels to be at the heart of these stories: that is, Filipino narratives. ![]() I had the privilege of speaking with Yap over email to discuss her approach to writing nested stories, the Filipino folklore she grew up reading, and how her tech day job influences her fiction, among other things. These thirteen stories breathe life into elegy while weaving magic and monsters into the contemporary horrors of everyday life. She brings to the page everything from urban legends to the unique challenges of online dating. In her debut story collection Never Have I Ever, Isabel Yap has crafted an entire universe predicated on Filipino culture, history, and mythology. ![]() 6/12/2023 0 Comments A clash of kings buy![]() ![]() ![]() In the corner of the room among the bushes between the broken window and the tower wall you'll find a chest You'll see this aqueduct upon entering, go to the broken tower on the far back, youll cross a creek that has a dead whale on the way, jump up the rocks to get to the other sideĪfter shimming up the rocks, youll be in front of the ruined tower and some walls, go to the broken down room with 2 broken windows next to the tower ![]() Go to Sarhoy, a small ruin, bottom right corner of the world map to the left of Volantis The entire guide is organized on with detailed screenshots to make this easier: I suggest starting the game as a merchant/shop assistant for maximum starting power on this strategy. ![]() Lann The Clever's money making guide (Does not apply to 6.1 and beyond) This works for version 4.1 you can do this without damaging your honor or reputation with anyone, and make huge profit very quickly. 1.5.1 But why should I trade when I can raid!?.1.1 This works for version 4.1 you can do this without damaging your honor or reputation with anyone, and make huge profit very quickly.1 Lann The Clever's money making guide (Does not apply to 6.1 and beyond). ![]() 6/12/2023 0 Comments Author of hey kiddo![]() ![]() Jarrett lives with his grandparents - two very loud, very loving, very opinionated people who had thought they were through with raising children until Jarrett came along. From Goodreads: In this new YA novel by Tanita S. ![]() ![]() ![]() The novel opens in 1947 with its ineffable leading man, Aldred Leith, 32 (picture Gregory Peck) on a train his final destination is the Japanese island of Kure, close to Hiroshima-provocatively close, but very little is made of the greatest fire of the 20th century. Each must scratch around now for some kind of compromise and call it destiny.” The story moves like a strange, sad picaresque, where all adventure has been exhausted, but the old heroes and heroines go through the motions of their now ordinary lives they seem hushed, shell-shocked, loathe to make a sudden move: “Two years into peace and bored to death by it. ![]() The unfolding plot, its slow pace and Hazzard’s precise, almost pained, word choice reflect a time far removed from our own: the late 1940s and the aftermath of an inevitable war after the war to end all wars.
